2027 Library Budget Vote
On May 19 this year, the library is holding a public vote for the 2027 budget. We are asking residents to vote on a $79,600 increase to the library’s operations budget.

If approved, the library property tax rate will increase approximately $0.02 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property valuation. A property assessed at $300,000 will see an approximate total increase of $7.00 a YEAR. The proposed increase would impact your October 2026 school tax bill.

To authorize the School District to levy and collect an annual tax for the Library in the amount of $993,000 starting with the 2026-2027 tax bill. This is an increase of $79,600 from the current budget.

The library has been able to absorb inflationary costs and state mandated minimum wage increases since the last budget increase in 2024, but can no longer continue to operate in the same capacity. The increase will allow the library to address continued rising operational costs, keep pace with the state’s minimum wage increases, and continue to offer exceptional and efficient library services.

The Library will have to use emergency reserve funds to balance the operations budget. Additionally, the Library will continue to evaluate other areas of efficiency.

You are considered already registered to vote if you have registered with your County Board of Elections for general elections at your current address (you will automatically be on the list); OR, you have registered specifically with the School District during a Board of Registration meeting. This year’s registration meeting will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 3:00-7:00 PM in the VCSD District Office for those not already registered to vote in general elections. Yes, the library is a relevant and important community destination. In 2025, the library welcomed over 96,000 visitors, an increase of 7,000 visitors in 2024. We are the highest circulating library in the OWWL library system, while having one of the proportionally smallest number of employees relative to population served.
